On August 24, 2013, the animal activist group Earthlings held an International March for Animal Liberation throughout the world. Organizers were active on the Internet calling for animal activists to participate in the event. They labeled the event as an animal liberation solidarity demonstration march against using animals for food, clothing, entertainment, research and as pets. The event organizers suggested a demonstration march and simultaneous opening of blindfolds in a dramatic fashion in front of targeted businesses.
Organizers selected businesses such as Louis Vuitton for using animal skins for various products, certain banks that finance various types of animal research, political leaders such as Senators in the United States for certain protection they provide to companies, McDonald’s for using meat in products they sell, and local government offices such as City Halls for permitting abusive animal entertainment events and locations.
These kinds of events organized by various animal activist groups are aimed at uniting local, national and international animal rights activist community. They keep the enthusiasm among supporters alive and well. Success or failure of one event usually does not discourage event organizers but it becomes a continued nonsense for targeted businesses and gets the attention of the general public.
